Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Frosted Morning' registered in 2008, 'Frosted Evening' is a large cultivar distinguished by its medium green leaves with creamy white, flat margins and a notable frosty appearance on both leaf surfaces and petioles. The broadly ovate, moderately cupped leaves measure 11 inches (27.9 cm) long by 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide, with 14 to 16 vein pairs and a cordate base.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a substantial clump reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height and 37 inches (94.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the white margins remain most distinct, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The tall scapes, reaching 48 to 55 inches (121.9 to 139.7 cm) in height and bearing frosted green coloration, provide vertical interest in the border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and implement control measures as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
