Overview

Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Frosted Comet' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Frosted Morning' and *H.* 'Ma Breeder', pollinated by *H.* 'Warwick Comet'. It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, moderately cupped and corrugated leaves that display dark green centers streaked with green, yellow, and creamy white margins, creating a frosted appearance.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its substantial, textured foliage pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials. The green-to-yellow scapes, 24 to 28 inches (61.0 to 71.1 cm) tall, carry flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage and benefits from protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
