Overview
Registered in 2004 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Korean Snow', 'Frostbite' is a small, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its medium green leaves with narrow, white, slightly rippled margins and very shiny surfaces on both sides. The leaves are elliptic with tapered bases and moderate waviness, while the scapes bear spider-type flowers.
In the Garden
'Frostbite' forms a compact mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its small size makes it well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border. Companion plants might include small ferns, heucheras, or shade-tolerant groundcovers.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Frostbite' may require protection from slugs and deer in garden settings.
