Overview

Registered in 2008 from unknown parentage, 'Frog Bog' is a medium-sized hosta distinguished by its green leaves with greenish-yellow margins that hold bright color throughout the growing season. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 7 inches long by 5 inches wide, feature flat, greenish-yellow margins and a cordate base, with dull surfaces on both sides and 9 to 10 vein pairs.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a moderate-growing, mound-like clump reaching 36 inches in diameter and 15 inches in height, making it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shade gardens. It performs best in partial to full shade with consistent moisture, typical of hosta-growing zones. The bright leaf margins provide contrast when paired with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials with darker foliage.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges; slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed as needed.
