Overview
Registered in 2010 by K. Vaughn and introduced through the American Hosta Society by M. Zilis, *Hosta* 'Fringe Benefit' is a large cultivar notable for its dark green leaf centers contrasted by creamy white margins. The leaf surface is shiny on both sides, with moderate corrugation and a lightly wavy edge.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound 22 inches (55.9 cm) tall and 56 inches (142.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and its large, broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases make it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement. The 24- to 36-inch (61.0–91.4 cm) scapes bear lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable for this large-leaved cultivar in typical hosta-growing zones.
