Overview
Registered in 1986 by E. Fisher and the American Hosta Society, 'Frilly Puckers' is a large, variegated sport of *Hosta sieboldiana* 'Gigantea'. Its distinguishing features include dark green leaf margins, a puckered leaf surface, and a substantial mature size of 30 inches (76.2 cm) in both height and diameter.
In the Garden
'Frilly Puckers' performs best in partial to full shade, where its large, puckered leaves with dark green margins provide textural contrast. At 30 inches tall and wide, it functions as a specimen or background plant in shaded borders and woodland gardens. Its substantial size pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that appreciate similar growing conditions.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Frilly Puckers' may be susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
