Overview

Registered in 2010 by R. Kuenster, *Hosta* 'Frills' is a large, mound-forming cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its blue-green leaves with pale yellow, slightly rippled margins, heavy veining, and a dull glaucous bloom on both surfaces.

In the Garden

'Hrills' reaches a mature spread of 48 inches (121.9 cm) and a height of 16 inches (40.6 cm), with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for blue-leaved hostas, and is suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in woodland gardens. Its substantial size and heavy texture make it a strong companion for ferns, astilbes, or other shade perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the broad, glaucous leaves are attractive to both pests.
