Hosta ‘Fried Bananas’ is a registered cultivar () .

Year registered1994
Section classIII-3

Overview

Registered in 1994, 'Fried Bananas' is a sport of an unidentified parent, notable for its large, open mound of intensely glossy, gold-margined green leaves. The foliage is very shiny on both surfaces, with yellow-gold margins that are smooth and distinct, creating a bright, reflective appearance in the garden.

In the Garden

This medium-sized hosta reaches approximately 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height, forming an open, semi-upright clump. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for gold-margined cultivars, and is an excellent grower that can be paired with ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials. Its compact size makes it suitable for the front of borders or as a specimen in containers.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and protect as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
