Overview
Registered in 2010 by M. Zilis, *Hosta* 'Fresh' is a sport of *H.* 'Amy Aden' that forms a low, dense mound of blue-green leaves with chartreuse centers and white margins. The leaf center matures to golden yellow, creating a tricolor effect against the white edge, while the underside bears a glaucous bloom.
In the Garden
This small hosta reaches 11 inches (27.9 cm) in height and spreads to 31 inches (78.7 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate that fills space quickly. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green cultivars, and its compact, mound-like habit suits the front of borders or rock gardens. The moderate leaf waviness and ovate shape with rounded base add textural interest when paired with ferns or fine-leaved perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry spells, especially in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Slugs and deer may feed on the foliage, so monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
