Overview
Registered in 2009, this giant cultivar originated as a seedling of *Hosta* 'Hadspen Blue' with unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its intensely dark blue-green, nearly round leaves that retain their glaucous coloration well into the growing season, a notable trait among blue-leaved hostas.
In the Garden
Reaching 17.7 inches (45.0 cm) in height and 31.5 inches (80.0 cm) in diameter with a mound-like habit, 'Franz Radzicki' is suited to partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its substantial, thick leaves and moderate growth rate make it effective as a specimen or in mixed shade borders, where it pairs well with ferns and other textural perennials. The grayish blue scapes, rising 11.8 to 15.7 inches (30.0 to 39.9 cm), produce flowers that complement the foliage.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While slugs and deer may damage foliage, the thick leaf texture offers some resistance compared to thinner-leaved cultivars.
