Overview
Registered in 1998 by F. Kruse, 'Frank's Rocket' is a giant hosta distinguished by its upright, vase-shaped habit and large, blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins. The plant reaches 42 inches (106.7 cm) in both height and diameter, with leaves measuring 14 inches (35.6 cm) long and 11 inches (27.9 cm) wide, each bearing 16 pairs of veins and a cordate base.
In the Garden
'Frank's Rocket' performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage retains its color intensity. At a mature size of over three feet in both spread and height, this cultivar functions as a bold specimen or structural accent in shaded borders, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its upright growth habit makes it suitable for the middle to back of a woodland garden bed.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry spells. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Frank's Rocket' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
