Overview

Registered in 2010, 'Franc's Green Bomber' is a giant hosta of unknown parentage distinguished by its heavily rippled, dark green leaf margins and deeply corrugated, broadly ovate foliage. The leaves reach 15 inches (38.1 cm) in length and 10.75 inches (27.3 cm) in width, with 16 pairs of veins and a cordate base, presenting a slightly shiny upper surface and dull underside.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a substantial upright mound 32 inches (81.3 cm) tall and 49 inches (124.5 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its large, textured leaves make it a strong specimen plant for woodland borders or shaded foundation beds. Given its giant size, it is unsuitable for containers and is best paired with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns or astilbes.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges; slug and deer resistance is not documented, so standard protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
