Overview
Registered in 2015 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Franc and Ed' is a large cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green foliage with a heavy glaucous bloom on both leaf surfaces. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 11 inches (27.9 cm) long by 9 inches (22.9 cm) wide, feature slightly rippled margins, a lightly corrugated texture, and a cordate to overlapping leaf base, giving the plant substantial visual weight.
In the Garden
'Franc and Ed' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green coloration is most pronounced, and pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it unsuitable for containers but effective as a specimen or in mass plantings in woodland or border settings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its thick, corrugated leaves offer some resistance.
