Overview

Registered in 2009 by W. Silvers, this giant sport of *Hosta* 'Elegans' is distinguished by its reverse coloration: a chartreuse leaf center framed by intensely blue-green margins. The ovate, corrugated leaves are wavy and reach 12 inches (30.5 cm) in length and 10 inches (25.4 cm) in width, with 16 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

'Foxfire Shadow Dancer' forms a large, mound-like clump reaching 29 inches (73.7 cm) in height and 50 inches (127.0 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green margins hold their color most reliably. The substantial foliage pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its giant size makes it unsuitable for containers.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick leaves show moderate slug resistance, though standard slug control measures may be needed in wet seasons. Deer will browse this cultivar if other food sources are scarce.
