Overview
Registered in 1990 by L. Simpers and P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Foundling' is a small-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its green leaves with medium yellow margins, a compact habit, and a notably tall scape relative to its leaf mound.
In the Garden
'Hosta' reaches approximately 7 inches (17.8 cm) in height and spreads to 10.5 inches (26.7 cm) in diameter, forming a tidy clump suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or small woodland settings. Its leaves are 4.25 inches (10.8 cm) long and 2 inches (5.1 cm) wide, with four vein pairs and a medium yellow margin. The scape rises to 24 inches (61.0 cm), well above the foliage. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with other small hostas, ferns, or shade-tolerant groundcovers. Its compact size makes it a good candidate for container culture.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
