Overview

Registered in 1996 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Frances Williams', 'Forever Frances' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with deep gold margins. The leaf blade, measuring 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 7 inches (17.8 cm) wide, exhibits a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and a cordate base, with margins approximately 2 inches (5.1 cm) wide.

In the Garden

'Forever Frances' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green leaf centers remain true and the gold margins hold their color without scorching. This cultivar pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts or woodland garden settings.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Forever Frances' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor for slug activity on the broad leaves and consider protective measures if browsing is a concern in the garden.
