Overview
Registered in 2009 from a seedling of unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Forest Canopy' is a giant blue-green cultivar notable for its rapid growth rate relative to other *H. sieboldiana*-type hostas. Its most distinctive features are the large, nearly round leaves with deeply corrugated surfaces, cordate bases, and slightly blue-green flat margins that are lightly twisted, folded, and wavy.
In the Garden
'Forest Canopy' forms a mound-like clump reaching 60 inches (152.4 cm) in diameter and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height, with scapes rising 24 to 30 inches (61.0 to 76.2 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its substantial foliage provides strong textural contrast. The plant's giant size makes it suitable as a specimen or background plant in large borders, paired with ferns or fine-textured perennials such as *Astilbe* or *Heuchera*.
Care Notes
Water regularly during establishment and in dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its thick, corrugated leaves offer moderate resistance.
