Overview

Registered in 1973 by E. Fisher, this large hybrid of *Hosta nakaiana* produces a substantial clump with gray-green leaf margins that contrast with a lighter center. The foliage is cordate at the base, with leaves reaching 11 inches (27.9 cm) in length and 9 inches (22.9 cm) in width, bearing 15 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

With a mature spread of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and height of 24 inches (61.0 cm), 'Fond Hope' forms a broad, dense mound suitable for partial to full shade. Its substantial size makes it effective as a specimen or in groups within woodland borders and shade gardens, where it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The large leaves provide good groundcover once established.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, this cultivar is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
