Overview

Registered in 2007, 'Flower Child' is a medium-sized hosta resulting from a cross between *Hosta* 'Fall Bouquet' and *Hosta plantaginea*. Its most distinctive features are blue-green foliage with a glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides, combined with attractive flowers inherited from its fragrant parentage.

In the Garden

'Flower Child' forms a substantial clump reaching 45 inches (114.3 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height, with broadly ovate leaves measuring 9 inches (22.9 cm) long and 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) wide. The leaves display medium green, slightly rippled margins, a lightly wavy surface, and a subtle shine on the upper side. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in woodland gardens. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Flower Child' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so appropriate deterrents may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
