Overview
Registered in 2003, *Hosta* 'Floppy Disk' is a large hybrid between *H. 'Sea Prize'* (seed parent) and *H. hypoleuca* (pollen parent). The cultivar is visually distinctive for its broad, blue-green leaves with wide, golden yellow, moderately rippled margins; the leaf undersides exhibit a glaucous white bloom, a trait inherited from *H. hypoleuca*.
In the Garden
This hosta forms an upright, moderate-growing clump reaching approximately 28 inches (71 cm) in height and 36 inches (91 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved cultivars, where the leaf coloration remains truest. The large, cupped leaves and contrasting margins make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders; its size precludes use in small containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
