Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Confused Angel' registered in 2009, 'Flemish Angel' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its broad, creamy white leaf margins that contrast sharply with the medium blue-green leaf centers. The margins, which range from 0.3 to 1.7 inches (0.8 to 4.3 cm) in width, become wider as the plant matures, enhancing the variegation.
In the Garden
'Flemish Angel' reaches a mature diameter of 38.6 inches (98.0 cm) and a height of 16.7 inches (42.4 cm), forming a dense, moderately flat mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom on the leaf undersides remains intact. Its substantial size and strong color contrast make it suitable as a specimen or accent in shaded borders, paired with ferns or fine-textured groundcovers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it may be susceptible to slug damage; regular monitoring and control measures are advisable in damp conditions.
