Overview

Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Flanders Passion' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *Hosta* 'Doctor Fu Manchu' as the pod parent. The plant is visually distinctive for its upright, weeping habit: broad, heavily rippled blue-green leaves with curled edges are borne on upright purple petioles, creating a cascading effect unusual in the genus.

In the Garden

'Flanders Passion' forms a clump approximately 20 inches (50 cm) in both height and diameter, with upright foliage that does not spread widely. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, which require protection from strong sun to maintain their glaucous bloom. The medium size and weeping form make it suitable for the middle of a shaded border or as a specimen in a container; it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Flanders Passion' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in gardens where these pests are common.
