Overview

Registered in 1991 by Walters Gardens, Inc., 'Flame Stitch' is a large hosta sport distinguished by its green leaves with wide, undulating white margins. The leaf blade reaches 24.1 cm (9.5 in) in length and 17.8 cm (7 in) in width, with ten pairs of veins and pronounced marginal undulation.

In the Garden

'Flame Stitch' forms a substantial clump 61.0 cm (24 in) in diameter and 45.7 cm (18 in) tall, with scapes rising to 86.4 cm (34 in). It performs best in partial to light shade, where the white margins remain stable without scorching. The large, textured foliage pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast in leaf form.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. The thick leaves show moderate slug resistance, though standard slug control measures are advisable in damp conditions. Suitable for typical hosta-growing zones.
