Overview
Registered in 2000, 'Flagship' is a medium-sized hosta derived from *H. sieboldiana* parentage on both sides. It is visually distinctive for its broad, heavily textured blue-green leaves with a pronounced glaucous bloom on both surfaces and slightly rippled margins.
In the Garden
'Flagship' forms a dense, mounding clump reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage retains its color most reliably. The substantial leaves pair well with finer-textured ferns or golden-leaved perennials for contrast; its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions rather than containers.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain leaf turgor, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Flagship' is susceptible to slug and deer damage and may require protection in areas where these pests are prevalent.
