Overview
Registered in 2004 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Five O'Clock Shadow', this medium-sized cultivar is distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad golden yellow margins. The leaf blade exhibits a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and a moderately twisted, corrugated texture, with the wide, slightly blue-green margin contributing to a heavily substanced appearance. The plant is thought to be possibly polyploid.
In the Garden
'Five O'Clock Somewhere' forms a mound 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter and 32 inches (81.3 cm) tall, with a moderate growth rate. Its gold scapes reach 32 to 36 inches (81.3 to 91.4 cm) in height. The broad, heavily textured leaves tolerate typical hosta-growing conditions, performing best in partial to full shade. It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its blue-green and gold coloration.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage; monitor and manage as needed in the garden.
