Overview
Registered in 2012 as a sport of *Hosta* 'First Frost', 'Firn Line' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with narrow creamy white margins. The foliage is elliptic, lightly cupped, and slightly shiny on the upper surface, with 11 vein pairs per leaf.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching approximately 10 inches (24.9 cm) in height and 16 inches (40.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns, heucheras, or woodland groundcovers. Its small stature makes it suitable for container cultivation or front-of-border placement.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The cultivar is noted for slug resistance, reducing the need for intensive pest management in typical hosta-growing zones.
