Overview
Registered in 2010, *Hosta* 'Fired Up' is a small-sized sport of *H. 'Halcyon'* distinguished by its blue-green leaves with white margins, white streaks, and mottled areas. The foliage exhibits a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and is ovate with a rounded base, lightly wavy margins, and 11 to 12 vein pairs.
In the Garden
'Fired Up' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and is well-suited for small gardens, rockeries, or container plantings. Companion plants include ferns, *Heuchera*, or other small hostas with contrasting foliage colors.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glaucous leaves offer moderate slug resistance, but standard slug control measures may be needed in damp conditions.
