Overview
A sport of *Hosta* 'Spilt Milk' registered in 2008, 'Fire Dancer' is a large cultivar distinguished by its unusual center pattern: a broad chartreuse-to-yellow-to-white central zone surrounded by flat, blue-green margins. The leaves are nearly round with cordate bases, lightly cupped, and moderately corrugated, with slightly shiny upper surfaces and dull undersides.
In the Garden
'Fire Dancer' reaches approximately 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter at maturity, with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-green hostas, and its bold leaf pattern provides contrast when paired with fine-textured ferns or dark-leaved heucheras. The 22- to 25-inch (55.9–63.5 cm) scapes bear pale lavender flowers in midsummer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, 'Fire Dancer' is susceptible to slug damage and may require protection in damp conditions; deer resistance is typical for blue-green cultivars.
