Overview
Registered in 2003 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Guardian Angel', 'Fire and Brimstone' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with creamy yellow and white streaked margins. The foliage exhibits a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, with broadly ovate, cordate-based leaves measuring 12 inches (30.5 cm) long by 9 inches (22.9 cm) wide, moderately corrugated and lightly wavy.
In the Garden
This slow-growing hosta forms a substantial mound suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its large, slug-resistant leaves make it a reliable specimen for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or as a focal point in mixed shade plantings. The blue-green and white-streaked foliage pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials that complement its muted coloration.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The cultivar's noted slug resistance reduces the need for pest management, though standard deer deterrents may be necessary in areas with high deer pressure.
