Overview
A giant sport of *Hosta* 'Sum and Substance' registered in 2008, 'Final Summation' is distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad, dark green margins of variable width up to 1.25 inches (3.2 cm). The nearly round, moderately cupped leaves exhibit a golden yellow center with slightly rippled, dark green borders, a slightly shiny upper surface, and a glaucous bloom beneath.
In the Garden
'Final Summation' forms a substantial mound 20 inches (50.8 cm) tall and 60 inches (152.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and benefits from protection from intense afternoon sun to prevent leaf scorch. Its large scale makes it suitable as a specimen or focal point in woodland borders and shade gardens, where it pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, and may require protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
