Overview
Registered in 2016, 'Fiftieth Anniversary' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar of unknown parentage, distinguished by its dark green leaves with narrow, greenish-yellow margins. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 9 inches (22.9 cm) long and 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide, exhibit slight puckering and a lightly wavy margin, with a flat, 0.25-inch (0.6 cm) wide border that is slightly shiny on both surfaces.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 31 inches (78.7 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover in woodland gardens. The greenish-yellow margins provide subtle contrast, pairing well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
