Overview

Registered in 2005 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Polar Moon', 'Ffred' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its deeply corrugated, broadly ovate leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins and a dull surface on both sides. The variegated foliage, combined with a substantial mature spread, gives this plant a bold, textured presence in the landscape.

In the Garden

'Ffred' reaches approximately 30 inches (76.2 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, forming a dense, moderate-growing mound suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its large, corrugated leaves provide strong contrast when paired with finer-textured perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera*, and the green scapes, which rise 20 to 38 inches (50.8 to 96.5 cm) tall, carry pale lavender flowers in midsummer. This cultivar is not suited to container culture due to its size.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Ffred' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
