Overview
Registered in 2008, this medium-sized cultivar resulted from a cross between *Hosta* 'Joseph' and *Hosta* 'Bold Ruffles'. 'Fandango' is visually distinctive for its nearly round, medium green leaves with slightly rippled, serrated margins, moderate corrugation, and notably heavy substance.
In the Garden
'Fandango' forms a mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 34 inches (86.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, where its substantial leaves resist tattering. The medium green foliage pairs well with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or *Heuchera* cultivars. Its moderate size suits mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The heavy leaf substance offers good slug resistance, though standard deer deterrents may be necessary in areas with high deer pressure.
