Overview
Registered in 1993, *Hosta* 'Fair Dinkum' is a small-sized cultivar derived from a hybrid of *H. 'Lavender Lace'*. It is visually distinguished by its intensely blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on both surfaces, giving the foliage a matte, powdery appearance.
In the Garden
'Fair Dinkum' reaches a mature diameter of approximately 25 inches (63.5 cm) and a height of 11 inches (27.9 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its compact size and glaucous foliage also make it an effective groundcover in small shaded areas.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most blue-leaved hostas, 'Fair Dinkum' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
