Overview
Registered in 2010 by an unknown hybridizer, *Hosta* 'Faerie Dust' is a large, mound-forming cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with golden yellow margins and a heavy glaucous bloom that imparts a powdery, light gold appearance to the foliage. The parentage is unrecorded, but the leaf coloration—a cool blue-green center edged in bright gold—makes it visually distinct among blue-leaved hostas.
In the Garden
'Faerie Dust' reaches a mature spread of 48 inches (121.9 cm) and a height of 24 inches (61.0 cm), forming a dense, moderate-growing mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom is preserved. The large, broadly ovate leaves with cordate bases and light corrugation pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade perennials; its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The heavy glaucous bloom may be less pronounced in full sun, and the leaves are susceptible to slug damage; standard slug control measures are recommended in damp conditions.
