Overview

Registered in 2012 by originator M. Zilis, this medium-sized hosta results from a cross between *H.* 'Lily Pad' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Sir Logan' (pollen parent). The cultivar is distinguished by its broadly ovate, moderately cupped leaves of medium blue-green with slightly rippled margins, a very shiny upper surface, and a rubbery, downward-cupping habit.

In the Garden

*Hosta* 'Evening Shadows' forms an upright mound reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where its glossy foliage retains color. The plant's substantial leaf size and cupped form make it effective as a specimen or in mass plantings, paired with ferns or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its medium size suits mixed borders or woodland gardens.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, rubbery leaves offer moderate slug resistance, though standard slug control measures are advisable in damp conditions.
