Overview
Registered in 2013, *Hosta* 'Evening Blush' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H. 'Hideko Tajima'* (pod parent) and *H. 'Purple Verticulated Elf'* (pollen parent). This cultivar is visually distinguished by its intensely blue-green leaves with a heavy glaucous bloom on both surfaces, white leaf backs, red petioles, and a 360-degree whorled flower placement on the scape.
In the Garden
'Evening Blush' reaches a mature diameter of 36 inches (91.4 cm) and a height of 14 inches (35.6 cm), with a flared upright habit and moderate growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, where its blue-green foliage provides contrast alongside yellow or gold-leaved companions such as *H. 'Sum and Substance'* or ferns. The plant's compact size and moderate spread make it appropriate for border fronts, shade gardens, or woodland settings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slug and deer damage, the heavy glaucous bloom may offer slight resistance to slugs.
