Overview

Registered in 2004 by A. Wrede, this medium-sized cultivar arose as a seedling from an F-1 cross of *Hosta* 'Dishon #9' with an unknown pollen parent. It is visually distinctive for its dark green, slightly rippled leaf margins surrounding a lighter center, and for its massed display of flowers that turn downward on dark purple scapes.

In the Garden

'Eureka Lodestar' forms a mound-like clump reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for variegated hostas, and is suitable for borders, woodland gardens, or as a groundcover in shaded beds. Its medium size allows pairing with ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials without overwhelming them.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas, though the slightly rippled leaf texture may offer minor resistance.
