Overview

Registered in 2015 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Eric' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its upright habit and exceptionally glossy, deeply veined foliage. The leaves present medium green, flat margins with a very shiny upper surface and dull underside, creating a pronounced textural contrast.

In the Garden

'Hosta' reaches a mature spread of 33 inches (83.8 cm) and height of 22 inches (55.9 cm), with a notably upright growth form and fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its reflective leaf surface makes it effective for brightening darker areas of the border. The medium size suits mixed perennial beds or as a specimen in shaded woodland gardens; it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
