Overview
Registered in 2016 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Venetian Lace', 'Ephemeral Lace' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with broad, creamy white margins that gradually shift to mint green as the season progresses. The foliage is broadly ovate with cordate bases, dull-surfaced both above and below, and features lightly rippled edges with a slightly wavy overall aspect.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a clean, symmetrical mound 13 inches (33.0 cm) tall and 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds. The creamy white margins and blue-green centers pair well with dark-leaved companions such as *Heuchera* 'Obsidian' or ferns like *Dryopteris* species.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage regularly and apply barriers or repellents if needed.
