Overview

Registered in 2004 by L. Hottovy, *Hosta* 'Eola Salad Bowl' is a small, mound-forming cultivar grown from seed of unknown parentage obtained from Walden West. It is visually distinctive for its intensely twisted and wavy elliptic leaves, which are green with heavily rippled chartreuse light green margins, and for its strongly contrasting leaf surfaces—slightly shiny above and very shiny beneath.

In the Garden

'Eola Salad Bowl' reaches a mature size of approximately 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, forming a dense, slow-growing clump. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its curled foliage and bright leaf margins are most pronounced. The plant's small stature and compact habit make it well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of a shaded border, where it can be paired with other small perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, particularly on the tender, wavy leaf margins.
