Overview

Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Enduring Beacon' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Liberty Bell' (pod parent) and *H.* 'June' (pollen parent). It is visually distinguished by its green leaves with glossy yellow margins that maintain their color throughout the growing season, combined with saturated red scapes that rise above the foliage.

In the Garden

'Enduring Beacon' forms a mound-like to upright clump reaching 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its heavy leaf substance provides good resistance to minor foliar damage. The plant's compact size and glossy foliage make it suitable for border fronts, shade gardens, or as a specimen in mixed containers, where its yellow margins contrast well with darker-leaved companions such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While the heavy substance offers some resilience, standard slug and deer precautions are advisable in areas where these pests are prevalent.
