Overview
Registered in 2015 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Avocado', 'Enchiladas' is a large, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its wide, yellow leaf centers bordered by dark green, flat margins. The leaves are nearly rounded with cordate bases, lightly corrugated, and measure up to 9.5 inches long and 7.9 inches wide, with eight vein pairs; the yellow center extends approximately 2 inches before the green margin begins.
In the Garden
'Enchiladas' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 31.5 inches in diameter and 23.6 inches in height, making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its large, variegated foliage pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast in texture or color. The scapes, which rise 25.6 to 29.5 inches above the foliage, bear highly fragrant flowers in summer.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Enchiladas' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; regular monitoring and appropriate barriers are recommended.
