Overview

Registered in 1988 by M. Zilis and T&Z Nursery, *Hosta* 'Emerald Crust' is a large sport distinguished by its green leaves with creamy white margins. The foliage reaches 12 inches (30.5 cm) in length and 8.3 inches (21.1 cm) in width, with 14 vein pairs, and the margins are described as creamy white green.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a substantial clump 40 inches (101.6 cm) in diameter and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height, with scapes rising to 42 inches (106.7 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a border. It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs may damage the foliage, and deer are known to browse hostas, so monitoring or protective measures may be necessary.
