Overview
Registered in 1990 by W. & E. Lachman, this small hosta resulted from a cross of (*H. 'Resonance'* × seedling) with *H. 'Halcyon*'. 'Emerald Crown' is distinguished by its glossy, dark green leaves with slight undulation at the margins, forming a compact mound.
In the Garden
Mature plants reach approximately 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and spread to 22 inches (55.9 cm) in diameter. As a small hosta, it performs best in partial to full shade, where its glossy foliage maintains good color. Its compact size suits rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders, and it pairs well with other small perennials such as ferns or heucheras.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be browsed by deer and is susceptible to slug damage; monitor accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
