Overview
Registered in 2013, *Hosta* 'Emerald Crater' is a large-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive features are the deeply cupped, nearly round leaves of medium blue-green with irregular golden yellow margins, combined with a dense, mound-like habit.
In the Garden
'Emerald Crater' reaches a mature spread of approximately 40 inches (102 cm) and a height of 19 inches (48 cm), forming a moderate-growing mound. It is best suited to partial to full shade, where its blue-green foliage and gold margins develop optimal coloration. The plant's substantial leaves and compact shape make it effective as a specimen or in groups within woodland borders. It pairs well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard precautions against slugs and deer are advisable, as both can damage the foliage.
