Overview
Registered in 1996 by P. Ruh, this small hosta cultivar was produced from self-pollinated *Hosta* 'Nakaimo'. It is visually distinguished by its green leaves with medium gold, slightly rippled margins, forming a compact mound.
In the Garden
'Ellie Bee' reaches a mature size of approximately 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) in diameter and 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) in height, with a mound-like habit and fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for gold-margined hostas, and is well suited for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its small size makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during establishment, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor regularly and apply controls as needed.
