Overview
Registered in 1988 by W. Zumbar, this miniature sport produces dense clumps of small, cupped leaves. The foliage is chartreuse with a distinct white margin approximately 0.25 inches (0.6 cm) wide, creating a compact, variegated mound.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Elfin Cup' reaches 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) in height and spreads to 9 inches (22.9 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or trough plantings. It performs best in partial to full shade with consistent moisture, and pairs well with other miniature hostas, small ferns, or woodland groundcovers. Its diminutive size makes it an excellent choice for container culture.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in containers, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
