Year registered1997
Section classIII-4a

Overview

Registered in 1997 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Abiqua Recluse', 'Electrum Stater' forms a medium-sized, mound-like clump distinguished by medium gold leaves with white, slightly rippled margins. The leaves measure 7.5 inches (19.1 cm) long and 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) wide, with nine vein pairs and a cordate base; the white margin is 1.5 inches (3.8 cm) wide. The leaf surface is slightly shiny on both sides.

In the Garden

'Electrum Stater' reaches 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 26 inches (66.0 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for gold-margined hostas, which may scorch in direct sun. The medium size suits it for mid-border positions or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees; companion plants include ferns, *Heuchera*, and shade-tolerant *Carex*. Its compact habit also makes it suitable for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor foliage for signs of feeding.
