Overview
Registered in 2002 by N. Hylander, *Hosta* 'Elata' is a giant, dome-shaped cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its large, variegated leaves with undulated green to sea-green margins, a prunose surface that fades to matte, and a glaucous sea-green scape.
In the Garden
'Hosta' reaches a mature diameter of 40 inches (101.6 cm) and a height of 26 inches (66.0 cm), forming a dense, dome-shaped clump. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its substantial size makes it suitable as a specimen or background plant in larger borders or woodland gardens.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slugs and deer may cause damage; monitor regularly and take protective measures as needed.
